Portal Sex Toys?

Portal Sex Toys?

Today I had a “you know you’re a gamer when” moment. I was doing a bit of online perusing this morning when I spotted this little pleasure device. I’m fairly open minded but having my nether region lasered to crap doesn’t really float my boat.

Down With Booth Babes!

Down With Booth Babes!

Sorry guys. I get you like looking at pretty girls dressed in very little, sometimes I do too, but there’s a time and place for this and I don’t feel a gaming conference is it. Using half naked ladies to attract attention is just a little demeaning in this day and age. I think it’s enough that women are often highly sexualised characters in games as it is without adding a ‘page 3′ vibe to a serious, big business convention. This week alone I’ve had two XBL messages from boys making suggestive or crude comments.

I MAED A P0ST WITH Z0MBIES 1N IT!!1

A few weeks ago, Twitter was alight with news of a new trailer for Dead Island, a supposedly open world “terror” shooter which has been in development for years now but long since forgotten by many. After the initial wave of excitement from the first to view the emotive trailer came the latecomers who had possibly become a victim of the hype and who mostly declared the trailer “not all that”, and then finally came the predictable zombie backlash – “zombies are the new Nazis in games”, “oh, zombies, how original” etc. I am a zombie fan. I love killing them in games, I love being scared of them in films and I love traumatising my kids by pretending to be one in real life.

One Girl, Two Pads

One Girl, Two Pads

Two years ago I won a really fantastic competition. It included a television, surround sound system, bottles of champagne, pink Marc de Champagne truffles (which I shouldn’t have eaten because they’re divine but hugely expensive so I can never buy myself any. I’d also like to point out that my birthday is coming up in a few weeks, that’s not at all a massive hint), beauty potions and, most importantly, a Playstation 3.¬† I have always wanted a PS3. I know there’s talk of it being able to play Blu-rays and how it has BBC iplayer (recently joined by ITV and 4oD) but all I wanted was to play Ratchet and Clank and God of War again, or try Little Big Planet.

The Gaming Closet

The Gaming Closet

Unless you’re rich and have a bucket-load of free time then it’s impossible to play all games. Most of us probably struggle to harvest a few hours a week to play that latest release we’ve been drooling over for months, let alone keep up with a backlog. School work tried to keep us away from games, now employment keeps us busy, children expect feeding and attention, family and friends drop by for visits and some of you need to wait for a nod from a significant other to get “permission” to play for a couple of precious hours. So it’s no surprise that some classic games slip through the net.
